What does Barnes and Noble look for in a book?
The process of producing a book from an edited, proofed manuscript is not just an art; rather, it follows specific guidelines and requirements laid down by the American Library Association, the major book chains, the American Booksellers Association, and a number of the key book distributors and wholesalers. Not meeting these requirements will automatically result in your book not getting into stores and libraries. Barnes and Noble alone has 17 requirements for books that must be met for acceptance, covering everything from covers to content. Be sure that, when you pick your company to self-publish your book, they can produce for you! A word of caution: you don't really get a second chance to do your book right. Some try this project entirely on their own, with calamitous results. First time attempts to save money by cutting out all professional help can lead to costly consequences.
